تدفقت التهاني للسباح الجنوب الأفريقي كاميرون فان در بيرج الذي انتزع أول ميدالية ذهبية لجنوب أفريقيا بعد الفشل المحزن في  أولمبياد بكين 2008. فاز بالميدالية الذهبية يوم الأحد بعد انتصاره في السباحة بالصدر مسافة 100 متر بوقت قياسي عالمي هو 58.46 ثانية. كما أنه أول سبّاح أولمبي جنوب أفريقي يفوز بميدالية ذهبية. نتج عن هذا تلقيبه ب “الفتى الذهبي” وانتشاره على تويتر
